Bundesnetzwerk 3R - The Federal 3R Network

The Federal Network 3R, initiated by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), sees itself as a network initiator to facilitate exchange and interaction opportunities between the different disciplines in order to advance 3R methodological research in Germany.

RepRefRed Society

The RepRefRed Society has set itself the goal of promoting the implementation of the 3Rs (Replacement, Reduction and Refinement of animal experiments). In order to achieve this, the society focuses on active information exchange among researchers through topical meetings and events.

Danish 3R-Center

The Danish 3R-Center very successfully engages laboratory animal facilities to improve conditions for the animals by promoting knowledge of the 3Rs. Now we also focus on technologies that do not involve laboratory animals, aiming to unlock the potential for an animal-free research future.

FC3R - French Center 3R

FC3R is the French reference 3Rs center. Its mission is to support the responsible use of animals in scientific research and to promote alternative and innovative methods. FC3R also promotes open science and the sharing of unpublished results, positive or negative, through the Short Notes platform.

Norecopa

Norecopa is Norway’s National Consensus Platform for the 3Rs, with a Board representing the four stakeholders: regulators, industry, scientists and animal welfare. Norecopa’s website aims to be a one-stop-shop for global 3R resources.

3R-Network Baden-Württemberg

Since 2020, the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts Baden-Württemberg has been pursuing the goal of establishing a statewide 3R network with the funding initiative "Promotion of activities to avoid, reduce and improve (Replacement, Reduction, Refinement - 3R) animal experiments".

3R Center of the Charité - University Medical Center Berlin

As the 3R Center of Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Charité 3R aims to both benefit patients and strengthen animal welfare through a cultural change in biomedical research using the 3R principle.

3R-BioMedicUS

3R-BioMedicUS brings together expertise from science & technology to develop ex vivo, de novo & in silico 3R methods for biomedical research. We focus on patient models in areas where animal models are insufficient, addressing from molecule to organ level.

3R-Zentrum Gießen ICAR3R

The 3R Center ICAR3R at Justus Liebig University Giessen aims to implement the 3R concept developed by Russell and Burch in a sustainable and interdisciplinary manner in the areas of research and teaching, thereby contributing to a reduction in the number of laboratory animals.

3R Center Rhein-Neckar

The 3R Center Rhein-Neckar promotes animal welfare in research through the 3Rs (Replace, Reduce, Refine). It supports researchers with training, advice on animal models, and open science to reduce and improve animal experiments.

TARCforce3R

TARC force 3R Center - Research Center for Animal Protection and Laboratory Animal Science

The TARC force 3R Center is a spin-off of the Translational Animal Research Center (TARC) in Mainz, Germany. As part of a university animal facility, we do everything possible to protect the welfare of laboratory animals in experiments that currently cannot be replaced by alternative methods.

3R-Center Tübingen

The 3R-Center Tübingen is a state-wide cross-sectional center that networks the 3R actors in Baden-Württemberg and thus bundles their competencies.

Einstein Center 3R

The Einstein Center 3R is a project in which eight Berlin universities and non-university institutions have joined forces to further the 3R principle in this city by networking and generating synergies. The research focus is on human 3D tissue culture models.

The Interdisciplinary Center for Gut Health (ICGH)

The Interdisciplinary Center for Gut Health (ICGH) consists of an interdisciplinary team from various disciplines. As part of the 3R Network Baden-Württemberg, our goal is to advance complementary research in the field of gut health in accordance with the 3R principle.

Würzburg Initiative 3R

The Würzburg Initiative 3R (WI3R) aims to consolidate Bavarian activities in the field of 3R from science, authorities, and industry, and it connects with existing 3R centers in Germany, Europe, and worldwide.

Erlangen 3R Initiative (ERI3R)

ERI3R is an initiative of Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg and Erlangen University Hospital. Through the exchange of knowledge and experience, the initiative supports the further development of scientific methods, the improvement of animal welfare, and the enhancement of research quality in research, teaching and infrastructure.

FOR 2591

The DFG-funded Research Unit FOR 2591 deals with quantitative aspects of severity assessment in laboratory animals. The national and international project groups use modern methods of data science, meta-analysis and quality management.

R2N.Mikro-Replace-Systeme

Since 2017, R2N – Replace and Reduce from Lower Saxony has been researching methods replacing animal experiments with organ models and cell cultures. The R2N-initiated Micro-Replace Systems network has 12 projects from 3 universities developing stem cell-based microphysiological systems.

3R–SMART: information & training platform on alternative and complementary methods to animal testing

In addition to various content on 3R topics, 3R-SMART also offers researchers the opportunity to present their own 3R projects. "3R-SMART" is linked to the "LAS interactive" platform and thus offers an interface between animal research and alternative methods.

Portal 3r-forschung.de

The 3R portal www.3r-forschung.de, launched by the networks Severity Assessment in Animal Based Research and R2N – Replace and Reduce in Lower Saxony, shares interviews, factsheets and infographics on the current state of research about replacing, reducing and improving animal experiments.

Bf3R - The German Centre for the Protection of Laboratory Animals

The BfR performs the task of the "German Center for the Protection of Laboratory Animals (Bf3R)" and coordinates nationwide activities with the goals of limiting animal experiments to the indispensable minimum and providing laboratory animals with the best possible protection.

State Animal Welfare Officer NRW

The State Animal Welfare Officer links voluntary private and state animal welfare. The officer assumes an advisory, networking and information role between politics, administration, civil society and the control authorities responsible for animal protection.

Animal Welfare Office of the University of Bonn

The Animal Welfare Office supervises animal experimental research at the University of Bonn. It consists of the animal welfare officers of the University of Bonn and essentially fulfills the tasks according to §10 Animal Welfare Act and §5 Animal Welfare Experimental Animal Ordinance.

Initiative Tierversuche verstehen - "Understanding Animal Research" Initiative

"Understanding Animal Research" is an initiative of the German scientific community, coordinated by the Alliance of Science Organizations. It provides comprehensive, up-to-date and fact-based information about animal experiments at publicly funded research institutions.

CIRS LAS (Critical Incident Reporting System in Laboratory Animal Science)

CIRS-LAS stands for an open error culture and constructive handling of critical events in laboratory animal science. The international system serves the web-based recording of unexpected events and the interdisciplinary exchange about refinement measures for more animal welfare.

Cluster Medizin.NRW - innovative medicine in North Rhine-Westphalia

The Cluster Medizin.NRW is the central competence platform for innovative medicine and its players in NRW. The services are aimed at everyone from science, clinics, business and civil society. They support through networking, information, consulting and location marketing.
