"Speaker: Jennifer Mein, Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin
Refining animal welfare assessment in research is essential for ethical standards and experimental quality. As no single parameter is sufficient, welfare evaluation relies on multifactorial approaches, with animal behavior providing a particularly informative and flexible readout. This talk will highlight established and emerging behavioral methods for welfare assessment and discuss whether trained behavior can serve as a sensitive indicator of burden and distress in laboratory animals. Jennifer Mein successfully completed her Bachelor of Science in Biology at the Technical University of Dresden and then decided to study veterinary medicine in Leipzig, where she graduated in 2023 and began her doctorate at Charite Berlin.
