Another replacement method attracted attention of the science community in the field of dermatology. This year’s science prize of the onkoderm e.V., the nationwide network of specialized and innovative dermatologists, was awarded to Prof. Dr. Jens Malte Baron for “Application possibilities of 3D skin models”. Prof. Baron and his team of the University Clinic RWTH Aachen who are also members of the 3R-competence network NRW has developed a human in vitro 3D skin model to study inflammatory diseases, effects of different therapies and of esthetic treatments. “In this way, animal experiments can be avoided in the future and clinical studies can be planned more effectively.“ concludes the authors in their article in Deutsche Ärzteblatt (in German).
